BRA Advocacy

At BRA Society, we have advocated for change to increase access to advanced methods of reconstruction as well as other positive policy change for Breast Cancer patients.

We have worked relentlessly to use insurance stories to pave the way for change, such as SB 1137 in Oregon (which went into effect on commercial insurance plans in Oregon on January 1, 2026). This law increases access to autologous breast reconstruction that doesn’t compromise the muscle for commercial plans in Oregon. If there’s a network inadequacy, it helps pave the way for single case agreements and allows women to go out-of-network/out-of-service area at in-network rates even if they don’t have out-of-network benefits.

This bill increases access to advanced techniques in breast reconstruction including access to DIEP Flap, SIEA, APEX techniques to help individuals have access to a true DIEP instead of a MS-TRAM (which takes muscle) as well as alternative flaps that don’t compromise the muscle including SGAP, PAP Flaps, LTP Flap, TDAP, LAP Flap, as well as stacked and hybrid flaps.

We have goals to increase access across multiple states and at the Federal level. Contact us to become an advocate in your state.
